When the Historic Columbia River Highway opened in 1916, the highway was acclaimed for its iconic design, inventive construction and innovative layout. With bridges and rock walls, the waterway is recognized as a America’s first scenic highway, and it highlights some of Mother Nature’s most brilliant handiwork, like Mount Hood, the Columbia Gorge, Multnomah Falls and more. The 100-year celebration for the Historic Columbia River Highway continues throughout 2016 across the region, and the American Queen Steamboat Company is cruising through the festivities.
